I have a question regarding a "bump" I keep coming into.

I have a cold email list, 200k big. I know what I need to send it and inbox. One of the things I need is an SMTP provider.

The thing is, most of them keep saying "we dont allow" bulk/cold email lists BUT clearly I know people DO send cold/bulk email from their servers. How does this work, is this all "don't ask don't tell" thing where they say one thing and look the other way or what?

does people still use smtp for sending email?
I think you should try to find a good and trusted domain and send email from there..

So basically you advocate for self hosted SMTP on your own VPS where you manage your IP reputation and your domain reputation. Hows that different from dedicated IP from SMTP provider + your domain?

I think prewarming or finding a non strict smtp provider to cold bulk emails
You can try aws ses as well if you can get approved but try to keep bounce rate less then 5%

All you need to do is clean the list first before you mail.

As long as your bounces remain low and you don't get a ton of spam complaints, you will be ok.

200k isn't really that big of a list, what is more important is how you got the list. If it's scraped, personally I wouldn't waste my time. Also you need to factor in how fresh the data is. If it's a old list, the engagement will be low which will impact your deliverability.

I am having the same issue. I need a SMTP that won't reject me after trying to open an account.

You don’t just load 200k emails and start blasting away regardless if the list is clean or not. You need to warmup the IP you’re sending from AND build a sending domain reputation. The only way around this is to split the list out into smaller pieces and send a few emails across many.

Be honest with yourself, are you sending spam to email addresses you don’t care about, or are you looking to build a lasting reputation?
