OK, you see those ads on TV where you get your horoscopes or whatever delivered to your cell phone. "Text 'SCOPE' to 11111" or whatever, and they charge your cell phone bill x.xx or whatever.

Does anyone know how they do this? It has bugging me for a long time, and after searching and searching on Google, I figured I would ask the experienced guys and gals here.

Any info would be much appreciated.

You need shortcode number, you can get one from clickatell.com.
When someone sends message to this number clickatell will forward received info to your domain (like blah.com/index.php?name=dude&text=scope) then you can either have your own gsm modem to deliver crap or you can send through service provider (again clickatell) for small fee.
If you really want to keep your cost down then you would provide access to wap site to download purchased crap.

Most offers you see from TV are membership offers, when you order your first scope you'll be charged weekly/monthly until you cancel your order.

Any idea on the prices that I should be looking for? If I had a product/service, I wanted to sell for $4.95 on a weekly update or something like that, how much of that $4.95 would I actually get, and how much does the service provider keep?

maybe this can help you
