SMS, 400k FTC Subpoena, not good!

I just commented a week ago or so, about a friend that was making $700 a day doing SMS texting, Well I found out today that the FTC had been watching him for over a year. Long story short he was hit with a 400k+ lawsuit by the FTC the other day. So a little warning to those out there that are not completely covering their ass.

could you elaborate more on this? How was he making money off sms and why was it illegal? Does it have to do with anything like sites that send free sms via internet ? for instance sendsmsnow dot com
 
Is he planning on fighting it or settling? I would just leave the country and continue my work.
 
damn thats brutal , i really hate the FTC...
 
He was basically spamming for mortgage related stuff. he was sending text with a link to a landing page and selling leads. I don't know the exact details, but I know he's F*ucked
 
We'll, like most people he doesn't have any assets to my knowledge, they will win and probably get a judgment against him. Then they have to try to collect. I have a few buddy's that owe over 200million, those lawsuits are stupid. Most of the time there is no way to collect.

The FTC has been busy lately. They just took down an acquaintance of mine here in Vegas ten days ago for several violations related to telemarketing/do-not-call-list violations. They are seeking more than $40 mm. Talk about being screwed. Be careful out there boys and girls...
 
That is very strange. Was he sending those sms from his own cell or from internet? I am wondering how did they catch him...
 
its pretty stupid considering that the cell phone companies have the technology to block that type of stuff
 
Bulk SMS is a terrible idea. Out of all the straight up illegal things I've done for money, I'd never touch that one with a 10 foot pole, and I had software that would do it.
