for those who remember back in sept/oct 2015 misses found an
abandoned kitten which i named pumpa-kin.
he took to me like glue, follows me everywhere talks to me
sleeps under my arm at night. this was him 2 yrs ago
and hes always been an indoor cat.

today misses takes dog out for a walk at dinner, comes back, little later that
afternoon i go out to take some trash to the bin and i see a ginger tail wiz
past the side of my door ie [ already outside ] i dash search the place with
the misses her cat is there, my cat no where.

suddenly dawns on me that ginger tail i saw vanish round side of my door
was my cat, for the next 5 hrs me / misses search couple streets right next
to us figuring he wont go far, first time out. looked under cars down peoples
yards, nothing, i was gutted, like really gutted. was out so long today
didnt even get my afternoon subs proxys done, SORRY GUYS.
couldnt even eat my sunday chicken dinner.

anyways i start reading wiki on cats
A domestic cat's sense of smell is about fourteen times as strong as humans'

so i grab couple bags and put some of the cats cat litter in it, dot a small
pile near my door and couple small piles down my front path, at same time
my neighbors cat who daily gos for walks with the misses when shes walking
our german shepherd is following us up the path as we place these small
piles of cat grit for home smell.

all of a sudden olly whos the cat from next door stops by s bush at bottom of
our path, we didnt think nothing of it at first, he goes into crouch mode
and hes just staring at the bush, now this bush is only about 12-16 inches high
and about 6ft round and very very dense, we coundt see anything.
but he new something was in that bush , misses pushes her hand in and there
he was all curled up scared.

we brought my boy home , hes a little bit unsure after his 5-6hrs in a bush
nothing compared to 5-6hrs we pounded the streets , misses new i was livid
gutted, ive told the lady next door whos cat actually found ours name your
toy/treat price no object. ma boy ma little pump-kin is home.

ps to my proxy subs sorry nothing got done this afternoon

yeh put me right off my sunday lunch most went to waste and i was back up
calling his name up n down the street for hrs, yeh i looked a prat yelling pumpa - kin
for a guy who suffers with serious anger issues trust me when i say hes a great help.
i owe the next doors cat.

Brilliant story, and glad you are all re-united :)

for a moment there, I thought that you were going to say that your german shepherd had devoured the cat, glad it didnt,
maybe he was terrified and just sought shelter (Maslov) and would have came to you again anyways for food.
Alls well

Cats usually have no trouble getting back home. I had a stray cat once which I used to feed. I would usually see it on the far end of street and it would always find its way back home.

this 1 had never been out b4 its easy to find your way back when your in/out
not so easy when its a cats first time out and gets scared they can easily
get lost

ill just let my mouth out the cage - better get a bigger dog.
