I've got a friend who owns a small business in my town. He knows I'm tech savvy and asked if I could help with a website. Besides having a crappy html website that needs to have title tags changed and some h tags edited, he's ranked terribly. I always outsource any seo I'm going to do (off page) but for a site with a small amount of 100% white hat competition, what types of things should I do?

Just dive in, you'll find local stuff is pretty easy. Optimize the page for the search terms you're looking for and it doesn't take many backlinks at all as much of your competition will most likely have little to no offsite SEO (backlinks). Of course if its like miami real estate that's a little different.

Yeah, I know it won't be too hard to get ranked, but I've never done small town business seo. Half the sites come up with a google maps location pinpoint next to them.

It doesn't seem like SB or Xrummer would make any sense for this, and social bookmarking for a small town term with about 1k monthly searches doesn't make sense either.

I guess just getting some high selective pr backinks would be a good way to go?

Bump for my questions ^^ :)

SEO is SEO. Small business or not, just do what you normally do but on a smaller scale. Don't hit it with SB or Xrumer though, be sure to use some buffer articles/web 2.0's and you will be fine. Easy peasy!

I have a local business site. I post regularly on a forum, have a decent website, have donor links (pr5), premium directory (pr0-6) links and I can come out of nowhere and rank #7 minimum any time I want for any keyword and I dont know half as much about SEO as most of you.

I am investing in high PR blogs ATM.
