Hmmm weird i reverted back to app version from before and its ok now, are you updated to the latest ios and instagram version from today (20th)?

I had to do the same thing which is to go back to a older version of instagram to get it fixed, i have an iphone 6 plus

Yeah sometimes the app update move slow. Also your internet connection can cause follow/unfollow to be slow.

no i dont think it is this when you go to your following list and decide to unfollow someone straight from here when you click on following to unfollow the confirmation button is much slower to come like 2-5 second delay compare to before when it was instant but when you go to someone profile it is fine, it is only from your following list, the unfollowing stay normal though, I think instagram did it on purpose to make us to stop or something like this.
Yeah new update came out today too, same issue so i reverted back to the older version, most likely to try and stop us...so annoying

instagram is getting dumber after each updates, it is all about making money now, heck there is proof everytime you scroll to your feed their is ads. Best thing to do is to avoid it as much as possible and use it when you bored only.
Have you tried unfollowing manually? Is it the same for you?

it is still here but i starting to understand why they did it, it is because if you go too fast and you kill the activity by accident and you try to follow people right after they might wont be able to follow you so it can prevent this from happening, but you can always get it back by downgrading the app.
ah thats incredibly annoying looks like i wont be able to upgrade anymore
