Is this slow compared to normal, it seems to take 1-2 weeks for my new site to get indexed. Even with regular updates and submitting about 10bls a day.

It depends what bls you use. With a blog which pings at pingomatic it can be faster...
But a static site with with bls from static pages not often visit by googlebot, it can take months

did u try hubpages.com?? just make one page related to ur blog/site on hubpages containing ur site link. I usually get index within two days.
