Hello, few days ago I have been discussing with one guy who is probably very good in SEO how to get one of my sites out of google (probably penguin) penalty, he analyzed my site and told me to get rid of one of sitewide backlink. Well, I have big network of blogs and used to interlink them with those sitewide links in side panels. Now I do not know if that is not hurting me more than helping? Do you think that I should delete these links and dont interlink my sites this way anymore? Thanks for your opinion on this.

If sitewide links were inherently bad, every decent sized webdesign company and digital agency in existence would disappear from the SERP's. I've got several sites powered by sitewides and not been penalized, so there's no rule that says sidewides = death.

That said, it is a good idea to go for a homepage link instead of sitewide. It carries massive amounts of link juice without all the concerns about multiple links from the same sites, if you're trying to play it safe.

100% spot on. I bet the web design firms sh*t them selfs at first, but as far as I can see the companies within my area all have sustained their positions.

Site Wide links being bad is a myth.

* The exception is if the links come from a shady site then obviously that would be bad.

sidewide and footer links.. both are not good after penguin update

I thought as much... I'm removing my sitewides this week from my sites.

i've seen many sites that have sidewide links and are ranking well.. that too in tough niche.

This is very true. The only thing about a sitewide link is, if it is linking to a site that has been pentalized them the pentaly will also come down on you.

I think, it's not the fact that the link is sidewide that is bad, but I think it's because its a footer link that create hundreds of links with the same anchors. What do you think about that ?

What if most of your links are sitewide? I see the problem with anchor text, but I do not know exactly google counts 1000 links with same anchor from one web as it would count the same from 1000 different domains.

I've got some sites with 77% inbound links all having the same anchor text, all from sitewide footer links, and they rank top 5 for those keywords in the anchors.

The sitewide penalty is pure FUD.

if sitewide links are bad then my all site must be out of google. Just let me again check it. lol

If a sitewide link has surrounding text about the link it is a good link. If a sitewide is stacked ontop of a load of other links it may lower the links value, but i wouldn't say it is bad for you.
