Do you have any experience/opinions on "sitewide" backlinks ?

F.e. menu links in blogspot - are you using it still after latest penguin updates ?

Yes, before acquiring the sidewide links, you should do quick checkup of the sites like (PR, Authority, Indexing Status) & Manually check site qaulity (includes Content Duplication checkup) then if all result - OK! Go and See great link juice coming to Your Webmaster tool status & serps.

My friend, if you don't know what you're doing, you'll get slapped anyway.
Take the time to research - what others are doing in "real niches" - copycat them.

There are risky and I won't use it on site that I'm not prepare to loses but if you find strong website you can get lot of juice from them. Some time ago I get on first page for very competitive keywords in financial niche in my national language thanks for such links. In translation they was: internet bank account, bank account, internet account and couple similar.

When you acquire such links make sure you do it from someone you trust first of all.If one of your "colleagues" gets slapped, most of the time, all their backlinks will be manually reviewed. This is why is important to work with people that you trust and knows their stuff.

Some of the other important aspects are

-Quality of the site
It's part of a network? If it is,dose it look like a real site?Dose it bring any traffic?etc etc

-OBL
You don't want your link on a page with 50-100 external links.

-Relevance

-OBL Relevance
Are your colleagues part of the same niche,or there is a clear sign that "references" aren't actually "references"

-Etc
