Do all of our sites need on page seo and backlinking strategies? For example, I have a fake news site and a shopify dropshipping site, and as I use fb ads to promote them I don't really think I need much SEO here.
Am I right? What could SEO improve for such sites?

What's a fake news site good for?

Now a Days Google and Facebook are more Strict for fake news and site, So be careful.

I presume, that SEO can help you can some more organic traffic, so it's worth working on it, if you need more traffic. Of course it might be tricky for fake news site, but I do not see any reason, why there shouldn't be any reason to work on dropshipping site.
However, You need to calculate whether costs of SEO are not too high compared to other traffic you get.

Well, you could get organic traffic, obviously. However, if you drive traffic with FB ads then, of course, you do not need organic traffic. I'd still always do onsite SEO, but you could skip the backlinks if you are satisfied with the paid traffic you are getting.

If you already have the mojo going through those paid advertising - then don't stop something that is working.
SEO can be pretty expensive to be implemented - and that is the intention of Big G.
However, other than those paid advertising sources of traffic, organic traffic can also contribute more traffic (but not necessarily conversion) to your present paid advertising.

You can benefit from organic traffic. As for fake news, so long as you can convince people its real, you are good to go. The likes of CNN have proven it LOL.
