Hi everyone,

Could someone help me out with these two questions please:
(1) Is there a need to resubmit sitemaps on every change? If so, do you have to do it manually through logging in to google/bing webmaster?
(2) I use the wordpress plugin All in One SEO Pack which states that "Changes are automatically submitted to search engines." But how do I check if it is actually doing so?

Thank you!

You really do not have to submit your sitemap everytime you make a change. If you are planning to "fetch" your site via Webmaster tools with every change, then I would even advise against it. If you are site is indexing correctly and there are no issues, there's no reason for you to fetch anything at all. And yes, there are plugins like Yoast, that submit the sitemap for you.

Hi Nargil, thanks for the response. May I know how do I know whether my site is indexing correctly? Is there a quick way to check?

Thank you.

You need to submit it only once from google webmaster dashboard. When you make any changes/updates in the website, it gets into sitemap and when google crawl your sitemap, they index your newly found page.

Apart from the spot on method that Nargil mentioned, you can also check the index status on the Webmaster Tools dashboard. It'll tell you how many pages are submitted and how many are indexed. It can take a while for every page to get indexed, so don't be tempted to continuously re-submit the site map if they don't all index right away.

Don't keep re-submitting your sitemap on GWT, it won't do any good. Like others above said, if your site is indexed it's all good. However, you can add the following line to robots.txt to give google bot a hint about your sitemap:

Sitemap: http://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml
