Sitemap not submitting

Hey Guys,

I have tried Googling this and the best answer I can get is that its a bug.

I have submitted a clients sitemap to Google and it won't fetch.

A few things that might help:
- It's the correct sitemap as I have checked
- The sites indexable
- The site had discouraged search engines for 6 months prior

I'm currently leaving it a couple of days to check if its a bug but if it isn't I'm a bit stumped.

The only other solution I can think off is adding an extra / as some people said this can work. Does anyone have any suggestions or have seen this before?

For site map submission Google search console is the best..you can use XML sitemap plugin to your website

Thanks for the reply. So the site has Yoast and I've been through the sitemaps when auditing the site. It's just that non of the sitemaps made by Yoast won't submit to Google search console

If your sitemap is without errors, and you are getting "couldn't fetch" error in GSC - wait day or few, it will show "success".

Both GSC and Yoast are buggy these days.

I'm using plugin specifically for search engines ref: https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/

You can also try putting YouTube embeds on important pages and submitting video sitemap.

yoast has lost it dump it use the free or paid version of the seo framework, generate your sitemap hit submit in GSC, give it 24 - 48 hours itll work

Just link your sitemap from the homepage and it will get crawled. Just share your site on social media.

Thanks for the advice, that's currently what I'm doing. Hopefully it shows success soon.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah I no longer use Yoast for my sites, I will suggest RankMath if it doesn't work tomorrow

I haven't tried that plugin before. I will have to give it ago and thank for the video sitemap idea

I'll do a social media share tomorrow and link out from the homepage for a day or two and see what happens

Thanks for everyone that commented. I used the plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/ and now GSC is accepting the sitemap and its indexing
