Hi there,

I have noticed some errors in my sitemap and here is what it says:
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot due to an HTTP status error. All accessible URLs will still be submitted. http error 404

What should i do?301 redirect to the actual pages?

Best

yes, you should fix the 404 (not found) pages to point to their new locations with a 301 redirect

Yeah 301 as mentioned above using the .htaccess file. If they weren't ever re-uploaded, just remove them from your sitemap.

Fixed everything, all good now. Thanks everyone for the response :).

When I get such errors I use to re-submit the sitemap, some times it gets crawled and some times I get same errors again and again.

If the urls return 404 cause they were deleted by you, it's ok for the server to return 404 and it's good for Google too - it tells them to remove these pages from their index, however, you need to 301 404 pages in cases like:
1. those 404 pages get external inbound link juice, if that is the case, 301 redirection is great to keep the link juice going.
2. 404 pages will be active in the future, for ex, e-commerce website. When one of your product is sold out, but will be available in the future, you can 301 the product page to the main category, or similar product instead of putting a sold out image - it's good for user experience.
3. those 404 pages get internal link juice from your main page for ex, or main category.
4. Those 404 pages had traffic before
5. Those 404 pages have positive PR (basically for reason 1 and/or 3)
6. Those 404 are well-ranked.

Otherwise, you can keep these 404-error pages mainly if you want Google to remove them from their index, and obviously you dont need them.

Good Luck

I have these issues sometimes and I think it's just when my server goes down very rare.. Because when I check the pages they're always up and running fine.. but they still show up on the report.

Your sitemaps should ideally not contain URLs that error (and redirect in my opinion) - suggest you regenrate your sitemap and make sure the tool you use does not include duplicate or error URLs
