I have several sites that rank for a specific long tail but not broad term, would you not think it should rank for both

    for example

    "Dog Walking" = Very Good
Dog Walking = not so good.

    Any ideas

My question is how do I rank for a broad term such as

dog walking in north east of england

    its easier to rank for

"dog walking in north east of england"

how does google rank for broad term as results see, different when searching for both exact and broad

It takes longer, keep building backlinks and you will get into the broad results it works like this

Exact results, Phase Results, THEN Broad results which brings you global recognition in the SERPs they won't just immediately give you broad results usually.
