Hey guys,

I had a site which hit #1 in january and was at #1 till mid March then after some google update, it dropped to #3.. I re-did my on page, built more PBN links but even then, my site kept on dropping. It is now at #9 sometimes going up to #7. It even went down to #20 once today and I'm sure it will get to #20 soon if i do nothing. One thing i know is that I have to diversify my anchors as my main kw is at 9% anchors and I am currently working on getting it down. I also ordered fresh content for my main page and inner page which also dropped, very well written articles.

What else would you do if you were in my place? build PBN links? anything else?

Let me know your thoughts as I am a little stuck here.

Thank you

I'd say build more PBN links if your on-page is solid. Perhaps you might wanna un-do your onpage?

What sort of site is it, an affiliate site ?

If so, how many links back to say Amazon do you have per page ?

Google updates may be the reason for this decrease in your ranking. Have you checked the status of your PBNs, whether its safe or being hit by G. Also, notice your competitor backlinks as well, it will help you to analyse what is needed to outrank them.

Niche relevant guest posts and high authority article placements can help in improving your ranking if the on page of your website is done perfectly.

Yes it is an affiliate site and well.. tbh I'd say i have a lot of links back to amazon per page.. I have about 4-5 links per product i review (on my main keyword i reviewed 5 products) so about 25-30 link back to amazon....

What about inner pages, articles etc, are you doing several links back there per article too ?
If so that may be one of the reasons.

I dont have any competitor that is targeting this keyword right now.. even then i cant outrank them. But yeah, i will take a look into competitors as well, thank you.

I might look to re-do the whole on page again when i post fresh content on the site. Yoast seo is the only thing i use for onpage for now, anything else you advice?

Yes, I am linking into my inner articles as well, about 2-3 articles interlinking. What do you suggest? Should i not do interlinking?

Linking internally shouldn't be the issue, it's the number of links back to Amazon that may be part of this. If you have articles as well as the product reviews but everything has Amazon links in, is what I mean.

I'll have a poke about as I'm sure I read an article about this from Jon Haver or someone like that.

This makes sense, thank you mate. All the articles that I interlink have amazon products links and a lot of them. I'll cut down on link backs and add a filler article in between the inter linking like - Product review <-> Random Article with no Aff links <-> Product Review

Is this strategy good or you suggest not doing interlinking at all in between the aff product reviews?

I tend to have some articles and they will have 1 or 2 links to other pages on my site, but no actual external links.

( give it a go yourself and see if this helps no promises from me, no doubt my stalker will be along to correct me shortly  but just try a couple of pages to begin with ).

If you have a large base of bought "permanent" PBN links it may be because your PBN links are "rotting off" as the seller lets the sites die when hosting runs out. Letting hosting run out when a network/site reaches max OBL and is finished "selling."

If this is the case you'll see a drop in rank as your backlinks disappear and if Google notices a large pattern of rot it may pick up that you were using PBNs and slap you on a page by page or sitewide basis.

Out linking can help - PBNS are a short term fix really they are just there to let google know who and what you are ... you probably need more trust flow to your site and should try to work on that vs more of the same link types. PBN's really just help let google know who you are and what you are unless they are really good and they all eventually fail.

Social media links, click throughs, those might be missing

OP, check your sites for on-page errors. Also, you may want to check if you lost some of your links. You might overlook these factors.
