Site:mysite.com not listing all pages indexed

Is this common for everyone?

I thought if you did site:whatever.com you would get all of the pages indexed in google. Does it just give some sampling of your pages?

I checked the full page when one was not indexed I thought should be and it showed it.

This was on a free wordpress property I own.

in this case it is not showing this page though ... but If I do site:page.com/exactpage it shows it ... right after that if I do site:page.com it is nowhere to be seen.

Might just be a weird google server thing. I do normally submit them directly after creation but it was not done and just had a bunch of variations of my keyword sitting at the bottom of the page haha .. google found and indexed it anyway I guess.

was just really too weird to not have a page show up that I know they have indexed when I used the site: command
 
what does it say in your search console? Google can choose to not show pages on it's index.
 
You might have an algorithmic penalty. might want to check into the reasons why that might be so. Good luck
 
does the page in question rank for any keywords

this is on a wordpress.com site so no google search console but its indexed since it shows when I put in site:website.com/exactpage

So it is indexed just does not show when you do site:mywordpresssite.com

luckily not the case here as this is a fairly thin wordpress.com site with no links haha

No I dont think any of these pages are really ranked in the serps for much

Try adding &filter=0 to the end of the google url after you do the search.
 
Popular web 2.0s usually aren't automatically indexed, submitting it to GWT or building some basic links should do the trick.

Did you check the site is showing in search console inner pages and is sitemap covers
this link? If all the property is good, then submit once again using url inspection in search console to index again. Then check with site: domain.com
 
I have a site in the same situation.

I bought a auction domain and had the content rewriting so it was unique.

It only shows 20 of the 200 pages but G does know all 200 pages are there.

No penalties either.

The missing 180 pages have backlinks. So i am unsure if i will be getting the authority from them or not.

^This. Don`t sweat about it. Try site:bbc.co.uk for example - it shows around 400 pages, while they publish that much in a week probably.

I have just done that on the BBC website and it's found almost 10 million pages.
 
Using site:yourdomain operator won't show you all the pages indexed by googlebot, also even the number of "Results:" above SERPs won't give you true info about how many pages were indexed. As you said right it somekind of sample info to understand approximate volume of pages in Google. Right thing to do (was mentioned above) is to check every page with GSC if it's indexed, also you can try to parse SE using software like Netpeak Checker or A-Parser using operators like "site:*yourpage*" for every website's page.
