I keep creating backlinks to my site, but I'm at a constant rank 23 for the past 4-5 days. Is this normal even though I keep adding b/ls and a few are already indexed btw.

How long does it take for backlinks to affect your serps? Is this a common thing for newer sites?

Keep building quality links sure you can see some serp increase soon !

I think you need to realize that it's a long race and despite your efforts, SERPs don't always change as fast as we want them to. Most everyone is impatient when they know they've been working hard. I made some .edu and .gov backlinks last week, that have pushed me into a dance that I'm just chomping at the bit to see settle down.

Backlinks does not affect SERP.
I have a site with 84,000 backlinks that is way behind sites with 1 or 2 backlinks and not moving an inch for months...

It really depends of the number, quality of backlinks,IP diversity, age of backlinks along with the age of the site.

i your site was indexed around 8 months and you build a few thousand for a normal keyword you will be on page 1 in 9 days after the blast.
I you site is new you should be building backlinks slowly, increasing the number troug the weeks, it should take a couple of months

@OP: You're kidding right. Your site is 9 days old and your wondering why it won't rank... It's because it's NINE DAYS OLD!

Unless you spam the crap out of your site or have exceedingly good content you won't simply rank over night.

For competitive keywords it can take months or longer.

Since Panda I am ranking way faster with new sites. Feed the Panda.. It's hungry.

How many backlinks are you building on a daily basis and what kinda links are these?

You cannot rank a new website on competitive keywords that fast. It has to wait 1 or 2 months (Matt Cutt's own words). Ranking a new website for competitive keywords in one month is the best you can do. No less.

Well actually, from my personal experience I can honestly tell you that it IS in fact possible to get a site to the top position for a reasonably competitive keyword in 1 - 2 weeks if you know what to do.

And to what Codythebest said about backlinks not affecting SERPS, I seriously beg to differ.

Same problem here...some ppl say you have to wait, some say its is abnormal.

Ok, let's say I'm wrong. Fair enough. Then I need explaination on what I did.
I made 3 random searches on Google:

1) Miami real estate.

The #3 on page 1 is miamirealestate dot com and has 17 G backlinks
The #4 on page 3 is miamism dot com and has 84 G backlinks

2) pearl sugar.

The #7 on page 1 is belgianpearlsugar dot com and has 1 G backlinks
The #4 on page 2 is lars dot com and has 3 G backlinks.

3) Life is a bitch

The #6 on page 1 is aleroy dot com / bitch dot htm and has 0 G backlink.
The #10 on page 10 is www dot lifesabitch dot com dot au and has 2 G backlinks

so how backlinks make a better position in SERP?
I guess I'm missing something here.

Of course, I'm talking here about Google, making searches on Google and SERP position on Google

First G don't show all the links .. it shows little fraction ..

Also if you have only low quality spammy links don't expect much this days

Your site is new .. just keep building diversified links

First G don't show all the links .. it shows little fraction ..

That means you don't know very well how G works, which is OK...

Also if you have only low quality spammy links don't expect much this days

Re-check. If DMOZ is spammy, then I know what I'm missing then...

Backlinks does not affect SERP.

Are you sure that SEO is the way to go for you?
Probably your website is full junk links, whatever...
But if you are so smart what does affect SERPS?? Black Magic, the tooth fairy?? Or how does it work?

always combine links with long quality content. Noticed very good serp movement after adding lot of content
