I bought a site on motioninvest and paid instantly via bank transfer.

The site has been in escrow for quite a while due to some problems (nothing I caused, maybe the seller didn't cause them either who knows).

I then got given wordpress logins etc and began to make some minor changes to the site, as well as making my own account. The payment has not been released because some social media accounts were not handed over yet.

I woke up this morning and found my wordpress login had been deleted (I still have the original one I was given) as well as some of my changes reverted back such as ads.txt file.

I understand the escrow hasn't been released, but if Im given access and I have paid, I feel like I can make any changes I want and shouldn't be kicked out of something I paid for. If anyone thinks I am wrong or can offer another perspective please let me know before I complain.

No you cannot make any changes whatsoever until the deal sits under escrow.

How did you even come up with this?

If the seller is willing to do this after my escrow has already been delayed by 1 week (which may be his fault, or motioninvest - I am not sure) and then they give me login details I am not sure what I am meant to do.

My main concern would be this:

If I cannot make a single change until the money is cleared, then the seller can change the login details and delete everything when the money has been cleared since he still has full access. He has the password and full admin control of the site.

Shouldn't motioninvest be controlling the site with no access to either party when this is going on? Otherwise it seems I can be robbed quite easily.

I would have thought this should be the structure of a sale so that integrity is maintained:

I send money to escrow
Seller gives up control of all accounts to motioninvest who change passwords and now control everything.
Motioninvest check account logins all work and release my money to the seller.
Motioninvest check the money is released and release all accounts to me.

The audacity and lack of self-awareness is astonishing. What makes you think that you can start making changes on a site that you do not own (or don't own yet)? That deal might never be completed for whatever reasons and you don't have any right to modify anything on a site you don't own. You are jeopardizing the entire deal with your actions, the fact that you don't comprehend this amazes me.

MotionInvest has a good reputation (so far) and I haven't heard any shenanigans going on there but if you think otherwise then you should deal with them in the first place.

You are 100% wrong here.

Imagine wanting to buy a house and the bank hasn't sorted/cleared the payment and you start moving the previous owner's things out without even signing the papers, and then you are asking what did I do lol.

I now understand I shouldn't have made changes. I don't have any blame for the seller after what you've said.

However, could you explain if this process is correct?

That is how it is supposed to be yes, but it's not always the case for whatever reason.

I think Escrow.com works the same way.. a moderator comes there only if there are issues and you need to give over all the assets to the buyer/seller directly and that leaves room for scams.. people get scammed constantly over escrow.com

What you suggested is how it is supposed to be done for a safe transaction and I am not sure why they aren't doing things like this because other communities deal just like that for maximum security.

I haven't seen any major scam reports for MotionInvest but I just opened their Trustpilot and there are like 2 people whining there so you just might want to check on that and maybe you have similar issues. If I was you then I'd withdraw from this deal when the first red flag is raised and it would already be enough for me based on what was said above, but regardless of that.. you cannot change any part of the site whatsoever.

If you want 100% security of what you are buying then better check EmpireFlippers.

Thanks, I think there is nothing shady going on but MI are a lot more unprofessional than I thought they would be.

I've just read the Trustpilots and pretty much agree with what's going on. Its just a generally poor service where the transfer team get things wrong and don't really know what they are doing. Neither did I in fairness, but this is their job.
