Site Got Panelized but got a wiered email

My site has been king for my KW for the past 8 months, today I had rank dropping all across the board but the site is not gone, my main keyword went from #1 to #11, others dropped by 30 or more places.

Last night I got an email from someone offering his services to "fix" Google penalties...

Is Google doing a round of penalties for everyone or is it just me, is it possible this *** hole attacked my site and is now blackmailing me?



Any help appreciated

Why don't you just check your backlinks over the past few weeks to see if someone has tried to bubble your site?
 
or maybe they were tracking rankings on a wide scale and then offered their services to clean it up? i dunno.

what type of penalty you have, weather violation of Google quality guidelines or unnatural linking?? You can easily check it by reading the message in Google webmaster tool.

Drop of immediate ranking in most probably due to Penguin HIT, so remove unnatural backlinks and use Disavow tool.
Nothing to to get very panic

Seems that the OP has fallen to be a victim of a negative SEO.
Though we all deal with black hat techniques, using negative SEO to gain profit is out of the line, at least for most people.

You don't have penalty/manual action from Google yet, so nothing to worry about that.
What you are experiencing is probably a soft penalty (-10), which is most probably caused by the person who offers his service to clean up your site.
My suggestion is that you clean your site by yourself, use Disavow Tools in this case.
Find your latest backlinks using ahrefs, and disavow links that you don't know.

You were most likely hit by penguin. And a random SEO spammer happened to email you at that time.

To verify either way just check backlinks with ahrefs or another service.

Well, there are no messages in webmasters tools. I'm going to let it ride for a couple days and see what happens, if I dont see any positive signs I guess Ill start making some moves. I'll keep everyone posted and hopefully it would become a "How To Bounce Back From A Penalty" thread.
 
forget about this site an just start another project.nobody can recover it and also is not worth the time and money
 
Looks like a suspicious coincidence but I doubt that someone delibarety did that just to trick you into using their service.
