So far i just hear theories. Go check things out by hand. Check how many pages are indexed still. Check the rankings compared to 2 weeks ago and see if you’re just on page 10 now or something. See if you have any manual penalties.
Check the numbers first and go from there. The current state is going to give you big clues to finding out the answer instead of guessing.

All pages are still indexed on the site and no manual penalties. Most first page keywords are now on page 4 while some are lost

I'm in the exact same position as you. Traffic recovered but is still down by 30%.
Average position keeps jumping back and forth between 13.5 and 14.5 (it was ~12 before the site got hit)

I Just checked now and it looks like my average position is back to where it is before I got it.
Still haven't seen a significant recovery for now

The current update focuses on ranking websites based on authority. A lot of old, dead websites started ranking for various keywords just because of the overall authority.
I guess Google again wanted to give the highest priority to the backlinks. In the past, content and black-hat methods helped rank websites without authority. It may not work hereafter, I think.
