Site Deindexed! HELP!

I’m an idiot! A complete friggin idiot. I launched a new site design for my client who was ranking decently. Careful to use the same urls as the last site design to transfer DA. 2 weeks ago it went live. Just found out the no index setting in the reading tab was set by my web dev guy and never changed it once it went live. Nothing is indexed now, since we moved everything over to SSL. I’m kind of freaking out. I’ve submitted everything to Google again and submitted sitemaps as well. How long has it taken any of you to recover from something similar?

Hey there! First thing first: Don't panic. Problems happen all the time. Being de-indexed because of a manual penal it is a problem, being de-indexed because of an unintentional action by you/your people is easy fixable.
At this point Google "thinks" that you are making some live changes on the website and because of that you are temporary removing the index until you get everything in order.
After you fix the problem and re-submit everything in the webmaster it might take up to 7-10 days for google to take care of everything. Stay calm and monitor the situation. Good luck buddy!

Ya that makes me feel better... 7 days is a long time for them to not be getting too many calls though. That's what I'm stressing out about.

- Submit sitemap
- Use crawl as Google & Index in search console
- Make sure you have proper 301s in place if anything changed on a URL basis, if its domain wide due to SSL make sure the http to https redirect with wildcard is set properly as a 301 (most panels will just let you tick a box for that when you install SSL)
 
How would I tell if it's a proper 301?

Yes, I totally understand you, but you have to know what might be the problems when you get into business with clients. Mistakes happen all the time. Once the mistake is done, the only thing you have to do is fix it and wait for the results. In your case it is slightly different: It takes time for google to understand what you really do with your website and that is why you don't see results even though you know that your site was crawled.
Google is not always doing actions on the first crawl, especially when you have already made changes within a week or two (doing often changes, except you are a news portal or a forum).

OK, thanks guys. They're 301s. I'll see what i can do to smooth the situation over.

lie to client its bcuzof ssl google fault set it to index and hope for best
 
Update : everything is ranking again. Meltdown averted thank you!
 
Glad to hear it got recovered now! Google is now slightly slowly on everything, we have to wait!
