Site badly hit! Why?

Two of my revenue generating site were on 1st page with good position on google. After I came back from travelling and checked my sites, they are on 9th page or having no position at all. What is this? I made sure and there's no google update. Is there any way to find the reason behind this?

It appears there was a Google update towards exact match

Maybe just some G dance? Was your websites in the top positions for long? How old are your sites? Did you engage any kind of aggressive link building recently?

Or maybe your competitors negative SEO you?

Its been on top for a year almost. No aggressive link buidling or blackhat techniques. How to look for possible reasons?
