First Q:
Single page site not enough for a proper SEO and getting indexed?
Do I have to make 5-10 pages?

Second Q:
Does making big changes like converting an html site to a WP site affect SERPs?

If you have any experience and/or knowledge about these plz let me know.

I know for sure that a single page site can get indexed and hold a #1 spot. Its all in the backlinks.

I don't do much with wordpress...
 
There is a guy here who will get you indexed for free. He got me indexed in under an hour
