Check out what this bill means to us, and others who make their living online. The government has gone too far.

The "Patriot" Act basically says that we can be detained for anything they deem to be "anti-government" or Anti-Bush. We can make a joke, and end up being visited by the secret service the next day.

We in America have truly lost our personal freedoms, and our "free" nation is now that of constantly having our every word and action scrutinized by those we pay to serve us.

Say goodbye to freedom and liberty. The America you knew, is gone.

Thank you for that. One would think I'd know my way around here by now. :)

i used to believe alot of this, but i soon realized a good amount of this crap is made up by 40-year old unemployed men in their mother's basements. I mean, the patriot act etc is all true, but when you visit some websites and guys claim things like the government raided them and installed mind-control devices in their brains (no joke, some guy said this! you can prolly find it on google), you realize where most of this info is coming from :p

The reason you don't believe it is because "You" have a mind-control device implanted in Your brain

What a nightmare that would be to track and administer........talk about growing government, just to be able to oversee something like that......

Ok, I just read the bill.

    It looks like http://rpc.senate.gov/public/_files/L62HR3221Houseamendments0618SN.pdf
shows where this has been snuck right in with the rest of the housing-relief measures.

House Amendments to the Senate Amendment to
    H.R. 3221 - Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008

These are amendments to the original......I am not happy with how this was somehow added to Foreclosure Act.....if this pdf is really a copy from the real senate archives.

It is one thing to try to help out those with Foreclosures, another to tackle the how to add more revenue to US Treasury......

As far as the Patriot Act goes, I think Vashtai is being a tad overly dramatic.

PLENTY of people have said anti-bush things and are still free. So your original premise that citizens who say anti-bush or anti-government things are visited by the US Secret Service is untrue.

The Patriot Act can be debated. Please stick to true empirical facts when discussing it.

All of the bloggers and Left wingers would be in jail, if your premise was true.

That being said, I have to agree that the part of the act that contains the transaction reporting is not cool.....not at all.

By the way, Magic Lantern in all probability exists, as we speak. http://www.kaspersky.com/news?id=266

Does it bother me? Nah, they could care less about BHW or anything that we do here. Now, they would care if it had to do with making weapons and Jihad and so on....

By the way, how do you know that the IRS doesn't already have the ability to retrieve your bank records and see those transactions? Hmm......

I think we need to keep a level head on things like this. The administration of such a program to require the reporting of ALL transactions would be and is a nightmare from an administrative viewpoint.

It's against the 4th amendment and you would need a warrant.. They are forcefully doing this therefore killing the 4th amendment.. As if they cared anyways.

Maybe this is going to pave the way to more taxes. An internet tax would kill us.
