Hello~

I have a website that serves cleaning services locally.

For each local area, is it better to have mysite.com/denver-cleaning-service, or just mysite.com/denver ?

If I go with the first one, I think I'll have to be careful not to over optimize for the keyword 'denver-cleaning-service'

Any thoughts?

Be very careful that you're not just creating loads of pages that are exactly the same apart from some geo information. Even using spun content, its obvious to google that you're just trying to rank lots of geo pages individually. Panda came down quite hard on sites loaded with similar pages just so they could rank in different geo areas.

Yeah I heard this as well.. would I be fine if I just re-write the content for that page?

Just go with the first one. And in the site post, try not to over do it with keyword stuffing.

Think of it as though you were Google; what would need to happen to make it worthwhile to index that page? If you just do a simple 'spin' for hundreds of pages, then you could argue that a single page with a bunch of company listings would suffice, as there is no need for content for each - as they're all very similar.

if you can provide a reason for each page to have its own content; then it's worthwhile indexing them. This means each page needs to be truly different. From the normal indexing perspective, just doing full hyper-spinning and content re-authoring will get them all indexed and may even pass a brief human inspection, but if there is any cause to look at your site manually in more depth, then they'll soon see that you've just manufactured hundreds of similar pages. The same thing goes for buying loads of geo-coded domains with the exact same content on (spun). It used to work great - a couple of years ago that is!
