Use a plugin named "Bulk Post Update Date" to bulk update the dates.
do u think is better to update published date or modified date? (it recommends modified one)

I understand this tool is only for WordPress sites. How about other variants of sites, does the manual method is the only way or anything to queue up?

Yes using WordPress sites, but the ones I'm talking about were related to e-commerce and a few hosted on different platforms for a longer time, if those needs to be migrated then it's a hell lot of work to do, but it won't be an achievable task to do it immediately.
