It needs to be hard coded. I'm not aware of any plugin.

The homepage displays your main categories at the top. Let's say, Sport, Science, Technology, Health.

If you click on Health, the categories at the top then become, for example: Vitamins - Fitness - Latest Health News

I think it also looks better for a user point of view as well. So I guess in theory, it's lots of small sites within one large site.

I agree, if only there was a plugin.
 
There are multiple plugins for Silo structure actually. I have never tried nor tested them to be honest. With narrow niche it's not worth it to sacrifice the user experience for serp boost, which will be minimal IMO.

Cool, can you list a few please - bearing in mind we were discussing the menu physically being changed in the main menu and displaying subcategories in its place.
 
I do not know them by name. It's been a while since I saw them. Quick googling should reveal them.

Just did that, and nothing that takes the main primary menu and changes it when you view a main category or a post within a category.

It's actually not that hard to make a Silo yourself, even without any specific Silo plugin. Just combine a few plugins, there's a plugin for everywhere. There's a plugin that can make a separate menu on every single page, which is more than enough for a silo.

It's hard to say there's such a plugin when neither of us can find one. Until we do, we can't really say there is one. I know a theme I used to use did it, it was a product review theme. If you clicked on Technology, it then displayed mobile phones, computers, tablets etc as the categories. It wasn't a plugin, just inbuilt into the theme.

I'm currently discussing outsourcing it to somebody to change the code within Wordpress... which I guess is the same as a plugin, just not needing to install one.

No, there is a plugin like that. I pulled off a perfect Silo in the past with it, but it's soooo much trouble it's not worth it.

Guys, you are forgetting that WP at its core is PHP. If you can't find a plugin to do something you need, head over to fiverr or a freelancing site and outsource what you need to do to a PHP/WP programmer. You won't pay much considering the fact that PHP is perhaps the most popular server-side language in the world with a huge programmer base.

You can't expect to just press "activate" and it will run. You have to perfectly plan your site, create separate menus for every single page on your site, fix any leakage, etc. It's not worth it time wise.

Yeah of course, that goes without saying. However, creating menus, categories and subcategories would be needed anyway. I don't see that would need much planning.

Yeah I will, for sure, thanks. I guess what's important is that the structure stays the same and if even if you add or remove categories/subcats it's automated so you don't have to manually change anything in the code.
