is it a must for the post to be on this format

www.mysite.com/category/postname, to be considered as a silo or just be on the category on wordpress but only with this format www.mysite.com/postname

i'm asking this because i haven't done any silo and i only have all different topics on my niche under the buying guide category and i want to do some silo on them

Yes a silo structure must look like this : site.com/category/postname
and if you have subcategories site.com/category/subcategory/postname

i have built links with only site.com/postname and yeah what should i do now ?

This has nothing to do with silo. This is just site structuring. Silo is something completely different and this term has been thrown around here randomly for years now.

It's merely a personal preference how you structure your site. Some people like to go 3 levels deep, some just 2. Check what your competitors are doing and copy them.

i'm trying to copy the wirecutter they seem to structure there website, but when you get to the end of the categorie post: it shows as : site.com/reviews/postname
but the main structure is site.com/categorie/sub-categorie/ but when you click on the link it shows as .../reviews/postname

See? It doesn't even make that much sense and it works perfectly.

What have we learned? Stop over-analyzing things. :)

i'm just trying to structure my website better and make google understand more what's about, i already built links to my previouss link structure wich is just site.com/postname, what i'm trying to do now is site.com/categorie/subcategorie/postname, i don't know if this will affect my previouss seo for some time or i don't know, as they are going to be shown as a breadcrumb on google
site.com categorie > subcategorie

If the site isn't new and it's already ranking somewhat, then do not change your URL structure.

Don't try to fix something that does not require fixing. Unless the URL structure is really tragic, it doesn't matter. Especially if it's a single niche site.

it's a multiple niche site that comes down into home improvement, that's why i need google to know my niche and add more topic relevency but still i'm afraid that it will be bad for me

Home improvement is one niche. :) Cats and cars, that's a multiniche site. My advice is not to touch it, final decision is of course yours.

will a 301 redirect recover that for me ?
