Noob question :/ am I allowed to post a non-clickable url on my signature or this is against the rules?
Thanks

5. SIGNATURES.

You must be a member of the forum for 30 days and have 50 quality posts before you will be allowed to use a signature on this forum. In order to use links or images in your signature, you must be a "Donor." You may post 2-3 affiliate links or 1 SMALL banner in your signature. Do not use a font size larger than 2, crazy fonts/colors, sound clips, excessive smileys, or anything else annoying.

Strange I see few members without donor status with links on their sigs. Anyways thanks, glad I asked:)

even i want a url on my sig but it will be a non clickable...it it ok?? and if yes then can i use 2 urls or no plz anser this sm1
i am afraid

Only Donors can have signatures (clickable or non clickable). If anyone happen to see signatures in non donors, just hit the report button.

Who knows. I had a non-clickable link in my sig and also explained my service in about 10 words. Got it removed, they put instead "no advertising in signatures". So I put a comment in my sig about what's the point of having a sig. Then they replaced it with 'no ranting in sig'. So now I just have my current sig as it seems they can make up any rules they like for signatures without actually publishing them anywhere.

Bottom line is there is no way to know for sure if you're allow to put a non-clickable URL in your sig or not. It might be seen as advertising, it might be against some magic non-published rules we need to abide by. If it's not allowed, they will likely just replace it.

The rules may not be all in one place and I can understand your rant, but you've been here since 2008, you should know better. On a side note, your sig convo made me laugh. :D

Seriously? The reason for my rant is that my sig has been the same since 2008, and only in the last month did it get replaced with the text "no selling in signatures". Yes I have been around, and am an IT professional. As such I expect to be notified of any changes to the rules (although I don't think there have been). It is entirely possible that the found my rant in my signature annoying (at least to someone), and fair enough that is against the rules. To my knowledge there is no rule for placing a URL in your sig, nor for selling in your sig. I will continue to rant as long as the actions of the mods don't reflect the rules of the forum. The mods have also been here a long time and to be honest I also expect more from them than making rules up on the fly.

If the Forum Rules for signatures are amended to reflect reality (i.e. your signature may be changed by a mod at any point for any reason), then this would be a step in the right direction.

Only donors can use links and/or sell in their sigs. If you are NOT a Donor, you cannot use a link in your sig, even if it's plain text.

Okay, that's the first time I've seen that published on here. Can the forum rules please be amended ASAP to reflect this? Note that I interpret the rules literally, that is to say I didn't have a link in my sig, just a text URL (thus not a link - it doesn't link to anything). Also nothing on selling in signatures. Any chance on having that clarified?

As I said before, you've been here since 2008 and you should know better. These rules have been around for a long time and you were very lucky to have your signature for that long. Back in the days the forum was smaller and therefore most things weren't strictly looked at.

Again, I disagree. I don't care what rules have been posted in threads, that's pointless. No-one can be expected to read all threads and posts to understand the rules. The Forum Rules state the following:

5. SIGNATURES.

You must be a member of the forum for 30 days and have 50 quality posts before you will be allowed to use a signature on this forum. In order to use links or images in your signature, you must be a "Donor." You may post 2-3 affiliate links or 1 SMALL banner in your signature. This rule says nothing about selling from a signature, and nor does it state anything about what text you can or can't use in your signature, except for " Do not use a font size larger than 2, crazy fonts/colors, sound clips, excessive smileys, or anything else annoying."

You guys can go on and on about how I should no better, but even though at this point I might be getting close to getting myself banned, I feel very passionate about this. I have never had an image in my signature, and I have never had a link in my signature.

I have had my signature changed for the following reasons, none of which violate the rules of the forum;

1. No selling in signature
2. No URLs in signature
3. No ranting in signature (i.e. no freedom of speech).

Well the text that I've highlighted in bold pretty much means no links/advertising in signature unless you've got "Donor" status. If you want to complain, you can try creating a thread in the Forum Suggestions & Feedback area or contact an admin. lol
