Some of us remember the early days in a formless internet. An internet where many websites existed just to exist. It was full of self expression, experimentation and even low Fi, low bit art.

Nowadays, most websites are blogs, forums or shops. Once in a while you stumble upon websites that stand out. Like LyricalLemonade, or journalism using parallax, like https://www.nytimes.com/projects/2012/snow-fall/index.html#/?part=tunnel-creek

There were websites like 2advanced studios, and even the first eminem website that made it into an adventure.

I am looking to get inspired. It'll be time for me to launch a website for my personal name and claim my spot on the interwebs without selling anything.

I will visit each one of your suggestions.
Go.

I thought it's cool until I realized most of these sites kill conversion rate. So I won't advocate that.

But, that is my point in this thread. Forget conversion rates. Forget the transactional design. Do you know of any website that is just... inspiring?

None of those websites I remember have still cool design. They all changed to more converting ones.

I don't have any websites now. I quit web dev and I like design of documentation and my software these days. As a black hat practicioner I have to focus on results in the form of monetary gain.

I had some software houses on my mind but they probably wouldn't impress anyone. They try to mix cool design with usability / marketing. I think it's the optimal balance.

I had netguru and yalantis on my mind. They have many sub pages that look almost like presentations for example case studies. I think it could be useful thing to show to some people who might be interested in business.

It's a full time job to design such sites so not my thing. I rather put into something more scalable / business oriented. For sure these sites smell white hat.

It's a cool job for programmers and artists who are bored maybe and close to retirement. Lol

Other than that you just go to awwwards and there you have infinite websites of creative style.
