Shouldn't Google be penalized for spamming SERPs with Youtube?

Search for any damned thing and Youtube takes 6 or 7 spots out of 10!

As if it wasn't enough to have 80% of the screen covered in spammy Google ads, now you search for clickbank tutorial and it's Youtube, search for some computer language or math question, Youtube.

Google is spamming SERPs with its own sites. This has been happening for ages, especially as they got into the affiliate business 10 years ago and started penalizing their "compeitition"(us), now they're stuffing search results with their own properties.

They penalize any website in serious competition with them. You don't see other video sites ranked as well as Youtube, just to mention one niche, Google is also in the travel niche, advertisement niche, yellow pages niche, social networks are all demoted in favor for plus.google.com and you name it. Google is the world's greatest SERP and ads spammer.

Basically Google is doing EVERYTHING Mr. Matt Cutts calls spam! The contradictions get worse every day.

• WHAT GOOGLE SAYS: Do not have too many ads on a page. WHAT GOOGLE DOES: 80% of Google is ads, ads, ads.
• WHAT GOOGLE SAYS: Do not spam the SERPs with tons of pages from a site. WHAT GOOGLE DOES: 70% of results are Google sites.
• WHAT GOOGLE SAYS: Do not scrape content. WHAT GOOGLE DOES: ALL of Google is scraped content from third parties and they show it on their pages. Google does NOT produce ANY content.
• WHAT GOOGLE SAYS: Have a clear privacy policy or be banned. WHAT GOOGLE DOES: Says the NSA "premium gold partners"!
• WHAT GOOGLE SAYS: Affiliate links must be clearly labeled. WHAT GOOGLE DOES: Has largest affiliate product search site in the world, not a single label.

How much more abuse will webmasters take?

I clearly remember the day I transitioned from altavista.com to google.com. Altavista had started promoting with popups, circa 2001 I believe. I thought "no way" and started using Google which had a clean interface and no popups.



Altavista's popup idea was horrid and it cost them the market ... I only started using Google only because it didn't suck as bad as Altavista started sucking.

Now with Snowden's revelations ... Google gives the feds direct access to your online profile. You've got no security. Also, not too long ago I was researching free web2.0s and came across ipage ... Googled it ... and now any website I look at spams me with 3+ ipage ads, some month+ after the Google. I'm sick of being tracked.

The only reason I hadn't switched eons ago is that Google's SERPs are the most relevant to my purposes of SEO. However, I do some 200+ queries a day that have nothing to do with Google's results.

I don't want to sound like a defeatist ... but ranking for SEO is cat and mouse nowadays, with the cat being 800 pounds and getting bigger daily. Within a year there won't be organic SERPs on the homepage for ANY search that has a commercial value to it, period.

So ...

#1 ... start preparing your SEO exit strategy. There are ways of making money online above and beyond just SEO, think social, etc.

#2 ... start using duckduckgo.com and dump Google for anything aside from keyword research.

Partially because of Snowden's revelations on how Google screws your privacy, and partially because Google in general sucks so bad and continues to suck worse, duckduckgo is seeing a pick up in traffic.

You can indirectly harm Google by giving other search engines increased market share, making it a newsworthy story and preparing for the eventual Google killer. With the poor results Google returns nowadays (yes WTF 7+ freaking youtube videos on regular searches ... again WTF) ... Google will go down. Start supporting an eventual replacement today.

google is going to be the victim of its own greed. at some points, users will say "enough is enough" and move onto other search engines, especially given the completely irrelevant results it's been returning lately. they seriously fucked up something that was working perfectly.

Its a joke really, people talk about MS use of monopoly power with pre installing IE on windows (which we all would have done) but they are have nothing on Google. The only thing we can hope for is that the authority's wake up to what's going on. As we move forward and more things go online this is going to have a more pronounced affect. The EU will be the ones that have to do something as I think the US will be to scared. All we can do is hope they make it so toxic that people switch to Bing and make them realize you cant continue to take people for fools. In the mean time, use the services the rank to your advantage.

A few years back, we see Google as a nice company, which are giving good stuffs, "do no evil", and generally helps the Internet.
Now Google tries to dominate the Internet, steals our data, trashes small business, spouts up lies and corruption using their avatar Matt Cutts and SEOMoz, and generally do a lot of evil.

As some Google services were down earlier this morning, I opened my browser to check whether some client sites were banned or penalized. I knew I'd get phone calls, so I had to be prepared.

I rarely keep digging SERPs, I don't watch them too often. But as I was browsing around to update myself on the situation before my customers did, I couldn't help but notice the CRAP results.

plus.google.com and youtube are simply taking over all SERPs. If you do honest SEO for your website, it takes $$$ and tons of time to do it, but if you do 15 minutes SEO for a Google page it just ranks....just like that.

So I guess newbies should all know where they're going next: SEO in Google properties. Google+ is a sea of SEO opportunity right now - just add anything and it ranks automatically.
