I see many people saying that making money from YouTube shorts generates very little income, even with high view counts. Should I upload more short videos or make longer videos to earn more money?

Depends on Niche. Youtube short is still a good option.

If your on your content is good so you earn otherwise your youtube account is banned

Shorts are good to gain some views and subscribers to watch your long-form videos.
Focus on long videos and post shorts every once in a while but don't make it your priority.

If your intention is to build audience for future, shorts is the way to go for. It pays less with google assistant but there are other ways to explore for making money with it.

i agree with friends, this is about your content. If you can get a million views with Short, it's short. But the profit of long-form videos will be more than short. You can direct viewers to your long-form videos via short by sharing sections with short that will allow them to be curious and watch the entire video.

im upto 450 videos and still focusing

You can create both, but yes you need a lot of effort to start seeing income from shorts, combine long and shorts always giving focus to shorts videos and for the long ones you can create 2 or 3 videos per week and you can make them 7 or 10 minutes long.

Thank you for this comment but: Can YT consider such shorts (snippets of an already posted longer video) as redundant, i.e self reupload, and so penalize the video(s) (=limit the video in browse and suggested) ?
Thank you.

I'm not talking about re-uploading snippets of a longer video that has already been posted. YouTube has the feature to create short videos from long-form videos. Using this feature of YouTube, you can create intriguing short videos from your long-form videos and direct short video viewers to your long-form videos.

Shorts is low paying cosidering the amount of views. For more power combine it with longer videos and engaging community tab :D

Yes definitely; It's a good way to increase your subscribers because you can easily reach more people with them, which means you can get more likes and views on your videos. Don't see this as a way to make money though, because shorts are not meant to make money, but just to help you show your channel.

Focus on long videos if money is your sole target.

Will I make a similar amount of money if I posted 1 min video in long from vs shorts?

Shorts are a way to get more new eyes to your channel. You may not directly make much from it but it will help people discover your main channel. Right now people are just scrolling shorts all day so there is a high chance you will get new viewers who have never watched your channel before.
