Should Use 301 Redirects OR Canonical URL?

Hi guys,
Currently, I have 2 websites:
+ Website 1:
- That is an expired domain (there are a few quality backlinks)
- 13 articles
- Current keyword ranking: NOT ranked in Google (literally - not found in 200 pages on Google) Although the article has been indexed.​
+ Website 2:
- That is a new domain be registered by me. Age: 3 months old
- 10 articles
- Current keyword ranking: The informative articles have average position: 2x to 3x . Buying Guide: 5x to 6x.​
My question: how can I Re-Use all articles on website 1 which is safe and most effective.
here is what I think:
1. Deindex all articles on website 1: This way is probably the safest but it takes a lot of time.
2. Make 301 Redirects to website 2: by this way, I will get power backlinks from website 1 - However, I wonder, all articles on website 1 not ranked on Google so nobody guarantees that if I make 301 redirects . is it really good for website 2?
3. Add rel= Canonical URL from website 1 To website 2.

Any advice for me, Which method should I use?

I would use the 2nd option. It gives quite a nice power boost as well in my experience gets the best results.

But if Google doesn't appreciate them (evidence that the articles are not keyword ranking). Moreover, these posts do not have much traffic as well as backlinks - almost zero. Most backlinks point to the homepage of the website 1

No one really knows what Google appreciates, but as I said, in my experience domains with articles and links redirected to another domain with same URL's just different domains gives a small ranking "bomb". For my site that bomb is exploding for almost 4 months now in a row.
 
Well, don't deindex and redirect for now.

Just interlink your Website 2 articles to website 1.
And find the website 1 articles why it can't rank due to the backlinks and the On-page optimization of the articles., if you feel like the contents you submitted in Website 1 are outdated. Just update the content with the recent brand so you will get those contents to remain live and get you the good link juice.

Also, check out the bounce rate for the site

You have to be intended to bring back the results instead of losing them
 
If it is indexed means try to first option with canonical URL.
 
I am confused because there are many different options :(
Deindex all the articles on old website is a better option however It takes a lot of time for Google to handle this :(
 
If the articles are relevant and deindexed, then you can rewrite and use it. 301 is risky process, and also it may not pass 100% link power.
