Should u ever let a good traffic domain expire?

Min amount of traffic (say its 1000 hits a week)
there's no minimum. Some people are happy with a few visitors a day, others with 1000s a day, it's up to you to decide what a good minimum is for you.

But my thinking is that if a domain is getting traffic (from google I mean) it means that it ranks, which means that it's already bypassed google's sandbox and gained google's trust, so this domain has value. Do you know how long some people have to wait for their domains to get traffic? Up to 2-3 years (rarely, but it happens). And you want to let a domain that gets organic traffic expire?? Lol someone will snatch it in a heartbeat if and build a business with that (even little) traffic.

That's how you should be looking at domains with traffic in this day and age when google regulates everything (including us), you shouldn't be looking at it from the angle of "what's the minimum amount of traffic that makes the domain valuable". If you own the domain and it gets organic traffic renew it indefinitely, don't be a cheapskate for $10 / year

EDIT: of course, if you intend to quit SEO for good then I suppose you can let it expire... although, an even better option would be to sell it for some coin instead of losing it for free

No, in the first place why you even think to let it expire

Well written post. Nice contribution and I agree. For $10 a year, it's worth even an investment for future sale as long as you babysit it and put up wordpress when you park it. I am getting surprised at the last couple years these expired auctioned domains are going for.

Yes, the Chinese own a vast amount of the dot com's- if you are interested I will see if I can find the stats, they do group buys like the zero one zero I posted about last week- it was a group buy. It's convenient way of getting money out of their controlled situation, so you can't blame them. They also unfortunately send spammy backlinks to good domains and "ruin" them for future ranking, I have scoured hundreds of what I feel are "damaged domains" on archive over the past few years. I don't want to pay for majestic, moz, ahrefs, etc

At the moment, I don't have time but need to look that up later, the site stats and need to look it up. HosterStats dot com might, check there.

$1000+ usually depending on niche and the day. I have picked up some for much less. Most people don't have the patience, or want to invest the time to find them. So if you don't have time, buy from someone who does. It's a lot of work, and I am not a programmer to do automated tasks or want to pay for stats from Ahref's etc. There are some good seller guys on this forum that sell them, and you should look at them, like Odys global.

You need to look at how many referring sites are in the top 100, and make sure they are not from unrelated sites like viagra, or chinese writing in them. In archive, if you look at the drop history from first registration until final registration and what the site looked like and if somewhat consistent then it might be ok. Often, the past few years will have blank periods where nothing was recorded in archive or you might see a 403 page continually on archive where they blocked archive from seeing the irrelevant site to original niche. That's my red flag without using the backlink scraper tools. I have gotten bitten before, buying ones then finding out all the bad crap from my 404 to 301 plug in logs. The other thing is under expired domains, you need to see a reasonable amount of backlinks versus unique ip's ratio if it exists. I see all the time 10K Bl's and 0 unique ip/referring domains- so will never even look at them they were usually spam.

I just saw this good thread:
