Should title tag and H1 be same, or similar?

I just recently updated my title tags, and it seems like google is just dancing around and going from new title tag, to H1 tag plus choosing it's own words.

I updated title tags to

Primary Keyword – Secondary Keyword | Brand Name

Google is doing: Brand Name: H1 - Secondary kw

Updated these tags 3 weeks ago

Any idea?

Write a unique title tag that will improve your click through rate. Not just primary keywords - secondary keyword.
You can include the brand name at the end if you want to.

H1 tag should reflect what is in the article.

You should have h1 and title tag similar, but not the same.

There won't be any problem if the title tag and h1 tag are same. Main purpose of h1 is to give the title in identical pattern. h1 tag can be used to expand your title tag.

Title tag is used to indexed by the web crawler, if it is relevant to the web contents. It is used for better indexing. It used to give the overview of your website. It is on page optimization technique. You should add the proper keyword in your title tag.

Doesn't Wordpress simply use the title as the page/post H1 automatically? So you would not add another H1 tag to the page/post. Right?

Google sometimes chooses its own form of site title if it sees this makes more sense.

As for me, always have your title/h1 different so you can grab more keywords and don't over-optimize.

Either way is fine, just do not put them as exact matches with exact anchors when building links.

You should carefully do seo or else it can penalize your site and backfire your site

Yea but if you change it with yoast or other seo plugin that only changes the title tag and not the h1.

OK, that is cool as I never fill in the Yoast title, just leave that as default. Thought I had missed a trick there for a minute.

As @neo said, your title tags should be used to attract the user's attention, thus increasing CTR.

They should be similar so that the user doesn't feel lost after clicking on your site in the SERP but not identical since you're not looking for clicks on that H1.
