Should post count be removed?

Without post count it would be hard to determine the value of the member based on the reps/thanks alone.

Say a member X has got access to 10 WSO's and he share it in 10 posts for which he gets 200 reps & 500 thanks. There's another member Y who just contributes by replying to peoples queries, but the reps he would get there would be minimal(possibly only from the OP).

With the above scenario

X has 10 posts & 200 reps 500 thanks
Y has 100 posts & 200 reps & 250 thanks

It doesn't mean that Y hasn't contributed any lesser to the community. So in this case (at least for me) post count would be useful to evaluate these 2 members.

Thanks, I'm glad someone is actually examining this closely with me.

Well, person Y would still get rep and thanks, regardless if it's a shared WSO or whether it's just advice in the forum. If you contribute, you get thanks and reputation. I'd see those 2 people as equals. They've both contributed equally.

My actual point here is that the desperate guy X (aspiring "SEO Gurus") shares in "Download Section" and attracts a lot of reps/thanks with less number of posts. And the real contributor Y who just reply to individual queries doesn't get a lot thanks/reps. So without the post count member Y looks always inferior to the member X(in the eyes of newbies & people who just go by Rep/Thanks). Just my 2 cents.

I understand what you're saying and it would be 100% valid if you could assume member Y was actually contributing quality. Scroll up to exhibit A. Look at that post quality. That's your average member Y right there.

You also mentioned replying to individual queries, which isn't really needed on BHW. WSOs providers are needed.
For example, this guy just got laid off, and there's like 30+ replies, so these "replies to individual queries" really aren't in highly demand.
However, this week's best selling SEO product still has yet to be shared. So you can bet that if someone ponies up the $47 or can find the download page, they're going to get a bunch of rep and thanks.

You can see, WSOs and other product sharing is in demand and needed on this forum, more individual advice... not so much.

I think after a certain point the post count doesn't matter as much. You may have 1,000 posts or 3,000 and I don't think people are going to think of you that much differently.

But..

I think it's important on the opposite end. I think it is important when somebody has 1 post and their asking or saying certain things. Then your BS meter is going to go off and that is important as well.

I think, the current system of bhw won't count and display the posts you made at lounge. Yeah, i know, still some people posts reply like "Thanks for the info", "Awesome posts" and such you stated in "Exibit A" on other main forum sections too. But, if they do this things repeatedly, mods will take care of it.

I guess more variables is more details about the person which makes us easy to deal or know person!

You couldn't come up with anything better so you posted this? Have some sense man, why the hell would one of the most basic features be removed?

Not sure where you've been but they have value. Specific functions all over the forum are based off the post count specifically. It's been a while so I couldn't tell you all of them but I imagine PMing, and access to certain sections, maybe creating new threads. However, you should realize the big obvious problem is people inflating their post count for some sort of sense of accomplishment. I don't know the last time you've been in the lounge, but post count celebrations are quite common, so the general forum society actually does value the post count.

my post which you refer to in your above post wasn't a celebration post
i was mocking myself if you read my post yes i enjoy bhw and all it offers
i merely stated that in my thread i need to get out more - was only light hearted
but i have never subscribed to the theory that posts/rep mean anything,
ive said that for years.

well said my friend

also removing members with low post counts isnt fair on
them, even though a high proportion of low post members is where bhw's
highest scam rate comes from.. but you cant remove all low post members
because there not all bad... its the few that give them a bad name not the whole.

now imagine BHW without post count , you will get your answer

I wasn't going to post on this thread, but my post count is low, so I decided to go ahead and post.

Post count is like toilet paper, its there if you have use for it, otherwise go on about your day and ignore it.

Some of us prefer to have it available.

Here's the "SEO Product" you mention...shared it myself but was then advised it was shared before, here:

[GET] Hangout [WP WEBINARS] Plugin

Hope it's of use to ya!

As for my own opinion, well, as mentioned, I could care less about the counts, but I do get bored with all the inane stupidities people post (and which, for some unknown reason, seem to survive for weeks) for absolutely no reason whatsoever...who needs posts like:
"I agree"
"I concur"
"Cool shit", etc

Don't have the time to sift through nowadays, and has seriously dented the pleasure I get (or used to get) out of browsing this forum lately.

Edited to change Download link as already shared prior to my share.

Always dogging on the members with low post counts...

That's exactly it. This solution would be for that cause. The bridge would be removed and make the number of posts irrelevant, bringing all of the contributors closer together.

PS: I'm glad this has turned into such a great debate. Turned out well.

i think there should be a minimum rep limit to pm and stuff. it will force up the quality of the forum

No, it won't. It will drive up the rep begging.

Like s0ap already said, post counts aren't going anywhere.
