just wondered about locking dead sales threads to save
spammers and noobs posting on sales threads long since dead
as a means to bump there posts or spam pointless posts raising
a dead sales thread

it would keep the active product sales threads going and the ones
that the thread owners havnt used the forum for 1/2 yrs lock them
and let them fall away stops newbies bumping them

personally ide go with just lock them
save spam, noobie bumps
and leaves the thread intact in case the user
ever returns

Good idea proxy, I like it.

Although it's too late for it now, a poll would've went nice with this thread.

+1 to this... :)

sent a pm to wiz to see if he can add a poll to this thread
as i dont no how to do them

Agreed. BST's from 2009 are popping up when they have been long abandoned. Or blog networks which are now closed, etc etc. Definitely more clutter than there needs to be.

How about after a page or two of no replies from the bst poster.

The likes of

"where's op"
"is this service still running ?"
" I wanted to buy this but op doesn't seem to be responding"

Etc etc the thread goes into hibernation. Seems to me a lot of bsts just see to die a slow death rather than the seller announcing " I'm closing this service down. Thanks for you custom and stay tuned for a killer new service thats in development at the moment"

most people either stop supporting a service
or just get fed up and leave

I think it's a great idea. I've seen a lot of VERY old thread be bumped by newbies posting "PM me samples" and "Will this package kill my site if it's only a day old?". Locking would definitely making it easier to find the active BSTs and stop the homepage having old BSTs pop up.

cheers for adding poll wiz didnt no how to
add one myself

If the OP him/herself hasn't made a post in a year or two, yes the sales thread should be closed.

im smiling that 2 people actually voted yes
old dead no longer supported sales thread should
be left open .

the point of locking them is to stop newbies raking up
threads that are dead, sales owner gone.
ide love to no why 2 people think leaving them open benefits
the forum when they serve no purpose but to clutter the forum
when bumped by people who dont check the last activity of
product owner

I once ordered from a dead service thread, paid 25$ or so and never heard anything since then...
It is very annoying to stumble upon services which aren't run by active sellers

agreed - keep supported products going
lock the dead ones... if the user returns later
can easily be unlocked by request

Sounds like a good idea.
