I had a site ranking halfway up page 2 for ages. I started putting high powered sites into it from my own pbn. The day after I started putting the high power sites into it I checked the serps and it was on page 1,position 4. I was obviously delighted but about 6 hours later it was on top of page 2. For the last week its been floating between page 2 positions 1,2 or 3 and page 1 positions 9 & 10. Now tonight I find its on page 3.

All the new links this week have been drip fed over the week (approx 1-2 sites a day)

I also had a 301 redirect going into it but I took this off about 5 days ago.

Do you think this is the google dance or should I scrap this site and try another? If its the dance then I'm fine to wait while it does its thing, and I was sure ths is what its been doing all week. Its just with this move to page 3 im wondering if I should cut my losses.

Why did you take it off? That could've been a big change that might be connected to your drop.

Overall, no, I don't recommend scrapping the site. If Google is ranking you within the first few pages, then maybe you should work on aiming for some long tail keywords that are related. You may find that you can get those to the top results and still make money off them.
