Should i update my tier 1 links with more text?

So my question is pretty simple but imo important to know: I have lots of tier 1 links pointing to my moneysite and my question is (actually i have 2 questions):

1. do i need to update the text or add more text lets say after 6-12 months to show google its active?
2. whats the minimum text i should have on tier 1 links? is there a minimum?

I have some ranking tumblrs as tier1 links and I regularly (once or twice a year) update them and add more content to the existing articles.
It's hard to say it it helps but those tumblrs rank for some keywords.

Hey, thats excatly what i asked for, well its logic right, should be better to update a little than to not update at all.
