My client was not happy with the charge they paid for my services (Not seo). We had a long call, what frustrated me was, he kept on pointing out that we paid you 6x more than what we usually pay for this kind of services. I happily issued them a full refund.

It took my team 25 days to get the job done they only had a few revisions here and there but the took a long time in giving feedback our work and he was not available during the weekends nor over the email, he wanted to discuss everything over the call only. I have never offered phone support all my life, in my opinion phone support was never a requirement.

They still have a few more projects in hand and wanted us to do. But, I don't want to repeat the same mistake again.

Here is what I am thinking,

Tell them Politely that I don't want to work with their company, since I am not happy in doing business with them

(Or)

Inform their Boss, I don't want to deal with xyz person, because he is not easy to work with, but I would love to work for their company, their boss is more easy going person, he understands people better but I don't want to be a bum making such things petty about his employee

(Or)

Document everything first, including pricing etc before starting the work.

I am really confused and quite upset honestly, I never had this kind of feedback before, I hate losing clients but I am quite upset with the situation.

What's your experience with such clients?

If you can't adjust yourself with a client you won't be able to deliver the best results. You may deliver the best quality but your mind will not be with him. So just move on.

It is best to immediately probe the client at the very beginning of communication with him and ask him certain questions in order to understand whether it will be comfortable to work with him in the future or not. There are many questions that will help the client open up and then everything will fall into place. Money is not always the main thing, as you can waste a lot of time and not earn a dime. It's best to save time and find a better customer.

I would take this option to be honest, there is no point in making more mistakes or waste time with them.

You are not being a bum, have a chat with the boss. It’s him who you should have dealt with throughout the whole issue. His employees and their attitude are his problem and not yours.

Explain to him your thoughts about the last job and refund and that if you are to continue working together some solid agreements need to be in place.

When i had my agency i had what i called my "dick multiplier".

The bigger the dick the client and the messier they were to manage the more i multiplied my costs.

This guy sounds like a 10.

So dont complain to his boss or anyone simply multiply your base rate by 10 to deal with him and get it in writing.

If he agrees you are being paid 10x more to deal with his shit, if he says no then look at it as you swerved his shit.

Either way you win.

i didn't even read the post but the fact that you are even asking the question, my answer is yes.

I prefer to inform the boss in cases like this. Also, I always prepared detailed invoice, so people have no question why the job cost so much.

Fire him. A client like that will cause you trouble in the long term. You already did what's best which is refunding him.
This. They never learn and will keep on doing the same thing again and again. Value your time. If they can get it done for 1/6th of the price they're paying you, then tell them to gladly take up on that offer. Always value your time, and know your worth.

I mailed the boss about the issue and told him that I don't want to work with xyz person moving forward.

Thanks to all who responded.

Got a reply from them, he was very sorry about the whole incident and he is ginning to have a word with the xyz person.
