Should I switch to IG business profile?

Yea I probably wouldn't switch it... I've had a bad experience before - it seems to be hit or miss. Most people would suggest not to do it.
I agree with @KraftyKyle. I just did an experiment the last three days. And personal account is getting more organic exposure compared to business account. Very huge difference in terms of organic traffic exposure. You better don't change from personal to business. Not going to be worth it unless you intend to spend on advertising.

Having a business profile is also advantageous if you really need to see your activity /content / audience insights.. You can switch back to regular profile after transcribing your page's data to another place (store the screenshot images for example)
Also having the Directions, SMS, Email, Call options can be useful for some type of IG accounts.. Just depends on the use case.

The main reason I wanted to switch is to get the insight. Is it ok to switch for like 2-3 days get the insight and then go back to personal again, would this have any bad effect on my IG?
Unfortunately when you switch to business, you won't have access to insight data for the period of time when your account is personal. IG already closed this loophole to prevent abuses and forcing corporations to convert to business profile so that they can push for more advertising dollars spending by reducing organic reach of business profiles.

There is no problem, You can upgrade anytime to Business.

It depends on if you are influencer or niche page (what will sell something later...) or if you are just having fun with instagram...
If you are influencer / niche page and you have under 5k followers (and you are scared to switching up to business profile) you don't have to (after hitting 5k followers on influencer page, i would recommend you to switch to business acc - on niche page i would recommend you to switch up after 10k or more...)
If you are just having fun with instagram and wont sell anything later, then you can go and switch up the profile to business.
As people above me said (most of them) it's “Hit or miss” meaning some people have great experience, some bad.
My experience is 50-50, altough lately instagram is trying to push more ads than never.
So as i said if you scared of “loosing” organic reach, then wait till you hit the number of follwers and switch it up.

It's a niche page and I have 20k followers, at the moment I'm not selling products, I'm just selling shoutouts, but I'm thinking of starting droppshiping, so it doesn't effect my engagement if I have more than 10k? I just don't want the engagement to drop.

From what I'm seeing and reading, looks like it might be affecting engagement (maybe to make businesses pay for a boost?), but as a business and not switching to a business account and miss out on all the data would be a huge mistake.

My point with the switching was, if you are scared to switch your page to business and you don't have 10k followers it wouldn't help you anyway. (no features, nothing usefull)
Since you've got 10k followers you can use the “Swipe UP“ feature which you can benefit a lot.
If you switch to business account and your ER (engagement rate) will drop, then i recommend you to get of ghost followers / fake profiles / bots etc...
Yes you will loose some followers, but your ER will be now much higher, which means you can end up easily on the explore page / Hashtag page (between top 9)
So in long run you will gain more followers than you loose.
May i see your IG page?
There are tons of pages what will tel you more about your page than instagram, for example i am very satisfied with hypeauditor (not affiliated or sponsored)
What you will miss is the Telephone → which IMO lot of people don't use it anyway (Good for local business or High Ticket price)
Location → Is the same as telephone → if people are interested in someones business on IG they are most likely going to check their website.
Email → you can put the email in your BIO same as telephone, location.
So you won't make that huge mistake if you don't switch up your account.
What i do: When i grow a page, i am switching profiles to business accounts right away.
Since i know tons of strategies how to grow on IG, i am not worrying about ER drop.
As i said above when i switched to business acc. my ER stayed the same or went down.

Yeah, you'll miss all those metrics to report on which a lot of businesses care about. Also, how is that possibly going to get accurate Audience metrics without access to the account. I just don't see how that is in any way accurate, other than using 3rd party data to assume, because whatever they're saying about AI is such bullshit. Anyway, if it works for you, then good for you. I'd rather get and report on the actual data.

I've been testing for a year now and I don't see any correlation between switching account from personal to business actually affects your account's engagements or whatsoever. I'd highly suggest switching to business as it gives you beneficial data to use to determine such as which post does well or what time to post would be good for your most "Engaged". Insights more than see stats, you can use it to help you definitely.

Well as i said, i am switching up each page i grow to business and i see same numbers in IG insights as on these websites...
About how does websites - 3rd party apps work (i don't use apps). To be honest i don't really care how the process works.
For me are important results and what they provide me with usefull information like: my followers interests, ER, Audience type - real people, influencers, mass followers, suspicious accounts etc...
I can use it to advantage and target better audience with my / clients posts... also when i look for influencers / niche pages etc.. do you think i go through all their posts and check all their likes & followers if they are authentic?
I check only Followers count and last posts, how many likes they got. If i “like” the number then i check them via websites to learn more if i like the numbers there, then i go back to page to analyze ti even further with my knowledge + you can use this information to negotiate price.
