Should I stop selling my software?

Hi, I made software similar to TweetAttacks and I am not sure if I should stop selling it.

I dont want to get sued by Twitter so should I just stop and close my site? What would you do?

It would be putting a mark on your back, so to speak. I wouldn't sell it, especially not publicly. The risk outweighs the reward in this case. Make a few grand and get sued for millions? No thanks. I'm not saying that is what would happen, but I'm definitely not saying it would be unlikely either.

How would I lay low? Stop promoting my site? I was trying to rank for some Twitter related terms, should I stop?

Im afraid they'll still find me somehow because my site has a higher Alexa rank than TweetBuddy (one of the sites Twitter targeted)

put up a blank index.html file and only sell privately

Damn, this sucks, I wasted over 200+ bucks on developing this software and wasted hundreds of hours tweaking it to make it perfect :/.

Guess its better to be safe than sorry...

Im just going to use my homepage to capture some leads and say the software is no longer being sold. Might as well put some of the traffic my site is receiving for good use.

Do you think this will put up red signs in Twitter?

I would at least re-host to non-US servers. You can always "sell" the business to a foreign investor.

I personally would stop selling it. I'd like to have peace of mind knowing that I'm not going to wake up one day with a lawsuit.

sell it on a forum but not through a website. You see if you still want to sell it, just start a thread on BST. The advantages are that they won't get your real name or cannot suspend your hosting/domain account etc. Here you make sales and can lay low too. Also for your website, keep multiple payment terms. Hide your whois or fake it. There is no way you will get sued if you can hide your details. It's not a rocket science.

It's good that you're at least capturing the email leads. Now you can wait till the dust settles and see the outcome of the current lawsuit. If it proves to be in favour of the software developers, then you can simply email your list to notify them that you're selling again.

yeah i would wait for things to settle down.

cl did this they went after everyone making software for their site and now they calmed down.

with other out of the game you could clean up.

I would say, don't work on SEO and rank for any term for your site and sell the softwares on only couple of forums or maybe sell them privately. Once time goes by (2-3 months), then you can start re promoting it.
