Richard here again. Need some advice on whether or not I should put up a donation bar on my blog...
So I checked out my competitors niche blogs and I stumbled upon a couple with donation bars which presumably visitors can donate through various methods like paypal etc.
I guess there's simply wordpress plugins to fit these onto the sidebar of your page. Just curious if you think people will donate to my blog if I put this up and deliver great content???
Maybe say something like "All donations will go towards the maintenance and running costs of my blog" or similar

Or

Should I just stick with my affiliate links and ditch the donation bar altogether? Has anyone had any success with the donation bar and is it worthwhile for a blog?

People really don't care about your costs, so i think a donation button is the wrong way to go as it can shout " desperate ". Big sites like Wikipedia have a donation bar, but they are a huge site and famously run by volunteers and a not for profit.

Try first, If you're not satisfied, then switch to option 2.

You make a great point about it looking like I'm needy by placing one on my blog. I don't know if anyone one knows about this video game site called twitch but its basically a site where you can stream your own channel playing all kinds of video games. People can watch you and I noticed they all ask for donations and such and its crazy because some people donate BIG $$$.

you should stick with amazon or google adsense. I don't think donation button will do anything for you!

I've put up donation block at the side of my website before and it does absolutely nothing. People don't just donate to you unless it gives them some incentives. If your blog is about informational stuff try giving them something that they would REALLY want to know and would pay for. It could just be a small sum but it's definitely more lucrative then having a donation button.
