Should I Pay For Backlinks?

I need you guys opinions on this. If you are to pay for backlinks, will you rather use a link building service or build your links manually by outreaching to websites yourself??



Link building agencies are really expensive. I don't really need lots of high quality links because I'm not in a very competitive niche. But I know links might help push the graph a bit.

We can do anything in this world by ourselves, but we don't always have enough resources to do it.
In this case, the main resource is time. If you have time to search for relevant sites for outreach, then it makes sense to do it yourself.

Otherwise, we do it through agencies.

Very often it happens that it's more rational to you invest your time in something else than looking for link opportunities

That's right. But agencies would cost more compared to manual outreach

Search engines like Google consider paid links as a violation of their guidelines and can penalize websites that engage in such practices.
 
You must be careful and aware about this. Agencies backlinks are often bought from PBNs, brokers, webmasters & forums. Such kind of backlinks are mostly going to put your site at risk.
 
Good quality links are always earned over time as your site ranks for more queries

For me it will be a mix of the both. I know that building backlinks is very crucial for the website. So if I have a set budget for a website then I will hire some agency to do that heavy lifting for me. I also wont mind building few backlinks myself using my own in house resources because I will always have control over which backlinks are built.

I would categorize your options in 3 ways instead of 2:

1. Outreach and Build links yourself (take maximum time but you can find some gems for a great bargain)
2. Buy guest posts or niche edits from a vendor who provides a list of sites beforehand (you can use your own filtering to decide which site to go for)
3. Go for a full-blown link-building agency that does everything on their own and doesn't need your inputs at all (Most expensive and most time efficient - but they should have a proven track record)

Since you aren't in a highly competitive niche and also want good ROI, I'd say go for a link vendor (there are plenty on BHW itself) and ask them to provide some options beforehand. Then use your criteria like traffic, DA, DR, site quality, etc.

That way you can find a suitable website for a small comission. And you wouldn't have to do the whole process yourself (which can be time consuming if you are solopreneur)

Almost all of them ask for payment. I simply ask them if I can guest post on their website and they provide their pricing and publishing guidelines. Everyone has their own.
 
I agree with just trying to reach out and ask places. You think it would never work, and while it is not 100%, people do seem to generally react well to an honest, human approach. Plus just as you are looking for links, other people are often looking for content as well so it can sort of go both ways I've noticed.
