Ok, I have two blog sites that I'm considering merging. Both sites are the same age, are on the same IP and have an identical backlink profile.
Site 1 is in a broad niche with just over 100 posts of quality content.
Site 2 is in a micro niche within the same broad niche as site 1, with 10 posts of quality content.
The keywords that site 2 is targeting are far more important to me than the keywords targeted by site 1.
I want to take all the content from site 1, move it to site 2, 301 redirect everything then shut site 1 down.
My concern is that site 2 is currently ranking for its terms, and I dont want to damage this by watering down the microniche with more general content. Its all in the same broad niche, but the content on site 2 is more specific.
On the other hand, there are massive internal benefits to running one site instead of two, not least the fact that all the authority we build goes to the same site.
Do you think I'm worrying for nothing?
