Of course, it would be nice to do it,
but I don't think it would make much of a difference if I didn't do it.

depends on the keyword difficulty and where you're currently ranking. Link pyramids are usually good for tough keywords...

As mentioned above, you can try it if your keyword competition is quite high or your previous backlinks don't seem to have much impact

Imo, tier links can help your site stay longer and stronger in the top rankings, if they are full of high quality tiers

it would be helpful in building authority and improving rankings, but of course, it is determined by the quality of those links and how well that is done
If done perfectly, it can improve on your SEO efforts, though quality over quantity should still be prioritized to get any penalty.
