For example, if the niche is "dogs"

Very highly searched keywords that I could make separate sites for would be:
dog bones
dog training
dog wars
etc

Or I could make one authority site, called "dogworld" or "animalinfo" or something, and just make hundreds of articles targeting the various keywords in the niche (which could be MNS themselves)

What would be the better choice for this?

Why not both? Start off with a mns and instead of researching different topics have all mns fall under the same topic. So you would rank quick as if it was a mns but eventually it could be an authority site.

Then when you get bored with that topic or run out of ideas you can just repeat... Have each page its own targeted keyword.

I think it would be easier to start with MNS's if you aren't too experienced on the subject yet. After that, you can go ahead and progress into bigger things like mini authority sites, with the experience on your back.

Yeah, the MNS sites would have plenty of topics centered around the specific keyword.

But the thing is, if I do an authority site, I could make each "MNS" kind of a like a category and then have all those topics related to it sub categories kind of.

Right now I have about 10 different MNS's so that's not the problem. I just don't know if I should make only 1 site or lots of sites for the specific keywords

i think the best thing to do is what you wrote here:

its what i did with my niche.

i think an authority site is better than lots of MNS's because you only have to rank 1 domain. get links for one domain. authority for one domain.
once you get "link juice" and "authority" on the site. all your keywords on all the pages will rank better.
an example is how wikipedia is at the top for everything.

youa re also correct about the categories and dividing up your keywords.
just remember, don't keyword stuff your categories. you cant have categories names
dog care
dog training tips
dog grooming
dog etc etc

the word dog appears to much. name the categories

training
care
grooming
etc.

and finally

since you are going through the trouble of creating an authority site. make it user freiendly and actually care about the user experience.
i think itll pay off

Thank you for your input. So if I made the authority site, what should I do about the titles of the articles? You said I shouldn't keyword stuff so should I do things like:

"Learn about dog care"
"Dog Training Essential Facts"
"Basics of Dog Grooming"
Etc

Then have the actual TITLE of the page be only the specific keyword: dog care/dog training/dog grooming/etc

I'd lean towards the authority site if you're looking at the long term.

Over time, you will build authority that will translate into easy rankings (and tons of traffic) from long tail keywords which is something a lot of people miss.

Considering the fact that Penguin/Panda are site wide penalties and people are having an easier time ranking new sites than recovering their Penguinized/Pandalized sites, I vote for many MNS sites. Google has made the authority site model of SEO into a high risk proposition.

I don't know, there are lots and lots of MNS sites that I could make, I probably can't manage/afford that many right now. That's why I was thinking of doing the authority site so I could just try to rank them all from one site.

I would start with several MNS sites. Authority, while nice, is asking for disaster thanks to these new updates. If the site gets penalized, then you can kiss your profit goodbye. However, if you have more MNS sites, there is less of a chance that all of them will get penalized, meaning you can make more with less risk.

On the flip side though, you do need more money to start up a line of MNS sites.

I guess this is what I'll do. Though obviously I'll have to buy and work on only a couple at a time

I recommend try some MNS at first so you learn the basics and all. Then move to an AS that will last you longer, but dont make it crappy.

There are so many things that you can do with it. It can try many of those as you do not which one you like most and which one you wouldn't use.
