Should I Keep Building Links?

I have a 1 year old site widget-keyword.com, for which I've been building quality links at a steady pace of a few links per month, the whole time. Anchors have a ton of variation. Most aren't even the same, just my keyword in a linked short phrase.

It was ranking 30-50 for all target keywords until G gave keyword domains a boost in the past 30 days. For 1 week it was in the top 5 for all target keywords.

Then suddenly, the homepage stopped ranking at all. It has been replaced by subpages that are not relevant at all and don't even include the target keyword in their content.

So instead of homepage ranking top 5.... now irrelevant subpages rank #445 for example.

Should I keep building links or is this site dead?

The Panda Update may have set some of your urls back. it did for me.

keep building links. on a site that is one year old, you should be safe. I build a couple thousand a month on sites that have been around 1+ months and so far so good

Maybe so. I almost hope so....I have another site that had this homepage derank happen in Aug 2010 after a simple redesign.... and it's NEVER recovered. Unfortunate...

There is almost no reason for any of your sites to NEVER recover. Just formulate a new plan and try new things. I don't know too much about this new Panda Update yet, but I'm hearing a lot about link diversity. Not just the standard link diversity, but new things as well. Try some social networking.

Yes, try to increase your social signals and this should help...

Panda Update let some of my 1 year's sites rank down, but that is not a big problem, I'll start building links, I'm sure my site rank will be back.
