Hi,

I'm really confused about all the stuff that is being said about evaluating compitition,

in the last few days i come a cross a GOLDEN keyword, 100 000+ searchs per month and less than 23k compititiors in quotes and 3k allintitle,

But here is the thing why am i posting this thread, it got a couple of news sites on the front page :s cnn and an other one that i'v never heard of .

and there is an ezine article and a couple of ytb videos and some images results

Non of the pages on the front page have the exact keyword on the title exept cnn and thats why it's no.1 for the keyword and all of them are sub pages and not main domains,

i heard a lot that it's better to stay away from keywords with this kind of sites on the front page but do you think that i can rank over the cnn link ???

If you do your on page SEO right and build your links you should get onto the 1st page I would think. Go for it!

First of thanks for the postv response

Well, yeah my on page seo has been done professionally and i'm really confident about it,

btw i know i can get to the 1st page but i'm talking about the first spot :)

if none of the sites are in that niche, you should enter it.Do not worry about the youtube, amazon and other results. You can easily outrank them.

In the long run, the site will most likely pay for itself either way, so you might as well. Besides, practice makes perfect.

Check the page rank and number of backlinks for each of those top 10 pages.

Even if the domain itself, like CNN, has tons of backlinks to it, if the individual page that is ranking doesn't have many/any then it means it's just ranking because the domain itself is an authority and not necessarily because Google thinks the individual page is really significant. In that case, you could probably beat it.

Hope that made sense. Anyways, good luck :)

Definitely give it ago man you will always wonder what if? If you didn't.. All the best man

Depends how many views some of the Youtube videos have, and how many link backs to actual videos them selves.

In some competitive niches you see Youtube videos with say 30 million hits, I have to rank against these, its not easy.

But just see the content in the ezine article, do some research on that URL, see what you need to beat it..Some times they look easy beats yet they are not.

Defiantly does not seem like hard keyword to target for just get your on site SEO great first, then move onto the off site.

Thanks a lot for your supporte guys,

Well, according to the yahoo explorer tool the cnn page have 97 backlinks,
and the other news site under it have 15 backlinks,
The ezine article got no backlinks
and the youtube videos have 17-90k .

and the other websites left on the poge don't have the exact keyword in title or description,

and btw my domain is not new it's almost 7 months old, and its already got around 360 backlinks from difrent sources ...

Again, what do you guys think ? that 97 links that the cnn page have is kind of making me scary ...

I think you are going to find it hard to beat that CNN page, but if your title and meta description is good you should get plenty of hits in 2nd or 3rd position anyway.

Well, decision has been made,i'll go for it and hopefuly i'll alsow get ranked for related keywords and get some traffic from them to !

According to your info so far I think your best bet would be to go with an ezine article (especially since the ranked article you mentioned doesn't have any backlinks) and get it highly ranked with one way backlinks, linkwheels, etc. Don't forget to link to your money site from your article! Hope this helps.

I had beaten CNN with a couple of niches, it's not that hard if you do your SEO right.
