Should I give writing articles a shot?

What's up everyone, this is actually my first thread here on BHW, so hopefully it's cool that I post this question here, lol.

Long story short, I'm trying to get my feet wet in making money online. Recently I started up my first niche website - thevrcritic.com, and am planning on adding several more articles and then begin SEO. I figure this method is pretty long term, and I won't see much income for a while (going with the amazon affiliate approach with no adsense), so I'm looking into other avenues for some short-term pocket cash. I've been considering writing articles but am worried that the work will outweigh the reward when you have countless "native English speakers" from places like India that can charge unrealistically low prices.

So, if you have the time, take a quick look at my (unfinished) site and let me know if you'd pay for the articles, and maybe even what you would quote them, as I'm not really familiar with how pricing works.

If I do end up doing this, expect a giveaway of some short articles to get the ball rolling.

If you've read up until thus far, thank you! I'd appreciate any and all feedback.

Edit: Also, any critique on the website itself (Theme, layout, etc.) would be great! Thanks.

Well that's a little ambiguous/spammy. What exactly do you have... and why do I need it?
    lol

You should give writing articles a chance. Put yourself out there on the market and develop your skill.

    Where are you from?

Your writing is full of grammatical errors, missing punctuations, run-on sentences, and other writing mistakes. Sorry to be blunt.

Obviously, people are not expecting Shakespearean stuff from you, but your writing needs some work if you want to be known as a quality writer.

You can compete with writers from India though.

I'm from the United States. Which article did you read in particular? I appreciate the honesty but could you point out any of these grammatical errors? I understand a couple here and there, but "full of them"? I was going for an informal, blogger tone so I can see how I'd have some run-on sentences, which is a bad habit of mine. Again, I don't mind that you're blunt because all critique is good critique, but maybe a little more elaboration would have been useful.

I'm on my phone now so I'll just tell you later when I get to my PC.

I'm a copywriter and editor for a US company btw. Your articles are informative and have good train of thought but definitely need proofreading.

If you're just writing in a casual, conversational style for your own blog, then I can understand why those mistakes happen. It's just like posting in a forum, nobody cares about grammar here. But if you're writing for clients, then your writing must be close to perfect. That's if you want to charge a premium.

I don't like writing as a freelancer type gig for one individual I like writing for a website that would pay more for the content.

Thanks for the heads up. I've put this project on the back burner for now - I'm trying to invest more time into social media now, as writing was just too time consuming.

Good advice, I'll be sure to remember that once I pick this project back up.

You seem legit. Any tips on how to break into the industry?

I used to earn up to 70 bucks per article, but ever since that gig ended it's been a wasteland.

Tips? Well, just strive to improve your skills all the time, follow instructions, and give it your best shot. Underpromise and overdeliver.

Maybe try some advanced grammar check like gramarly or ginger?

Articles only work if you have expertise.

After all, why read so-called expert advice clearly penned by an idiot?

If you have something to say then you must take ownership of it, otherwise you merely spin everwafting wind for the benefit of breeze fiends.

When we think of articles, we are still trapped in the mindset of what authors refer to as "trad publishing".

This is to be conduit-centric with your info & knowledge, dependent on some gatekeeper.

Perhaps, if those gatekeepers were benevolent, they would reward knowledgable article writers rather than cream off the best bits and club the rest to death.

There is power in gates, and you must open some of your own.

For whom do you speak, and for whose benefit?

What is it that you wish to articulate?

Ally the wish and the voice to your self, and you have something to loft over any gate to whomsoever you choose.

Learn to do keyword research, create websites and use that as an outlet for your article-writing.

If you select products that have keywords that are rankable, and produce a 100+ page website focusing on those products -- you're going to make far more money than you ever would if you were writing articles for other people.

When I write an article, for example one particular niche (sex toys), I know I'll make on average 10 cents per visit, usually make on average $15 to $25 per month per article, every month. Plus I can flip the site if I want. There's no way to get that kind of money if you're writing for other people.

But it's a little more work ... you have to manage your on-page SEO (and get good at it).
